In an exciting return to the race track, the new Corvette C8.R racing car had its first victory, making this the 100th win for the team at an IMSA competition.
This was just the third race for the new mid-engine Corvette C8.R. Antonio Garcia was behind the wheel of the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R as it crossed the checkered flag, winning by 1.977 seconds. Garcia’s stretch of the race lasted almost two hours, following a difficult start by Jordan Taylor who dealt with the challenge of a damp track. Team members Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner came in close behind with the 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R, landing 4th place.
The win at the IMSA WeatherTech 240 at Daytona is an exciting achievement for the Chevy team, because of the two milestone accomplishments. The Chevrolet team has worked hard to reach 100 victories in IMSA competition, and this race was no exception. Both Taylor and Garcia went one lap longer than the majority of their GTLM competitors. Garcia landed right behind Earl Bamber’s Porsche, and both drivers stopped during the same lap, before Garcia made the pass and set the record for the fastest GTLM lap of the race.
